Now that the holidays are over, let’s talk about the next purchase or gift you need to ask for! PLEASE stop using disposable aluminum tins to cook in and using tin foil that touches your food! Aluminum is a heavy metal that your body then needs to detox from. It is not JUST Teflon poisoning you as you cook!
A good quality stainless steel or cast iron or stoneware roasting pan (DO NOT buy nonstick either!) is an investment in your health! I bought my kids each one for Christmas one year, taking advantage of an online Black Friday deal.
Buying Stainless Steel:
- 18/8 stainless steel should be your lowest standard. The “8” refers to the percentage of nickel used in the steel. You want this number as low as possible, so don’t go for 18/10 or higher.
- 18/0 is ideal, but it is costly.
- Do not cook acidic foods in stainless steel.
- Replace pans immediately if they become scratched or dented to a degree that exposes the core.
- Test your stainless steel with a magnet. If a magnet won’t s(ck well to the pan, it has a higher nickel content and should be avoided.
Recommended Brands: Chantal Induction 21 steel contains a copper core and is nickel-free.
Buying Stoneware:
Stoneware is particularly useful for baking as it heats very evenly. When properly seasoned and cared for, it will last a lifetime and contains no heavy metals or chemicals. You can find sheet pans, muffin tins, loaf pans, and a wide variety of baking pans made of stoneware.
A few cautions:
- Like ceramic, stoneware does break when dropped and will crack if you try to clean it while it is still hot.
- Stoneware should not be cleaned with soap as it will ruin the seasoning and absorb into the stone, impacting the flavor of your food.
Best Brands: Pampered Chef, Le Creuset
Toxic metals, which include aluminum, displace trace elements, sodium and potassium as well. It can take YEARS to fully detox aluminum. If you are cooking in it, it is constantly building up in your family’s and your body.
Sources of aluminum toxicity include:
- Antacids
- Antiperspirants
- Beverages packaged in aluminum cans
- Chemtrails
- Coated Aspirin
- Dental crowns and inlays
- Fluoride is a byproduct of the aluminum industry
- Food in aluminum containers
- Food prepared with water that has high aluminum
- Food wrapped in aluminum foil or cooked in aluminum cookware
- Glyphosate
- Processed cheese
- Table salt or baking powder
- Vaccines
To remove aluminum from the body:
Aluminum is excreted principally through the urine. Adequate kidney function is therefore essential for detoxification.
Aluminum can be eliminated to some extent by the skin. Hot baths with Epsom salts may be beneficial. Any therapies which improve the activity of the liver, kidneys, bowel and skin can be helpful.
We also need whole food c and can use silica as well to help detox it.
Food/herb sources of silica:
Cucumbers with skin, romaine lettuce, marjoram, burdock root, New Zealand spinach, bell pepper with skin, radish, tomato with skin, onions, oats, strawberries, avocados, brown rice, bamboo.
Also, eat sulfur rich foods.
Silica-Rich Mineral Waters: Silica easily obtained through mineral water can bind to aluminum. Horsetail, nettles infusions are rich in silica and can be used to assist aluminum elimination.
Magnesium also helps shut out aluminum from cells; it works hand in hand with malic acid (Jigsaw magnesium has malic acid).
Health Related Issues/Conditions of Aluminum Toxicity:
Early symptoms of aluminum toxicity include:
- Burning pain in head relieved by food
- Colic
- Dryness of skin and mucous membranes
- Flatulence
- Headaches
- Heartburn and an aversion to meat
- Tendency for colds
Later symptoms include:
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Anemia
- Behavior difficulties
- Bowel activity
- Colitis
- Dementia
- Dental cavities
- Digestive disturbances
- Fatigue
- Hemolysis
- Hyperparathyroidism
- Kidney dysfunction
- Leukocytosis
- Liver dysfunction
- Loss of memory
- Mental confusion
- Osteomalacia
- Paralytic muscular conditions/Neuromuscular disorders
- Parkinson’s disease
- Peptic ulcer
- Porphyria
- Skin rashes

It was Christmas leftover week when I was preparing this newsletter. One way to use up leftover ham, peas and raw cheeses we had, was to make a gluten free macaroni and cheese casserole. I have done this with Sheep’s Milk cheeses in the past, but as of right now I am tolerating Raw cows milk dairy. My son Zac loved this as a child.
Zac’s Favorite Macaroni and Cheese
Serves 4
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp of Butter
2 Tbsp flour (I used Pamela’s GF baking flour)
1 cup of whole milk (I used local Raw milk)
1/2 a 12-ounce package of macaroni, boiled to the box directions (I used Jovial GF macaroni)
4 cups freshly grated cheese (I used a combination of Cheddar, Gouda and gruyere, all Raw)
1 cup diced ham, cooked in bacon fat until crispy like bacon
1 cup of leftover peas
1 tsp unrefined salt
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp dry mustard
Directions:
Cook ½ a 12-ounce package of macaroni, boiled to the box directions.
Dice the ham and cook in bacon fat until crispy like bacon.
Combine the macaroni, ham and leftover peas in a bacon dish, stir it up so that a it is all well mixed.
Melt the 2 Tbsp of butter in a saucepan, add the 2 Tbsp of flour and whisk until smooth add the salt paprika and mustard and whisk smooth. Slowly add 1 cup of whole milk and whisk until the liquid is thick like gravy, add the cheese and whisk until fully melted.
Pour the cheese sauce evenly all over the macaroni mixture, stir so evenly coated.
Bake at 350 degrees F for about 20 minutes.
It is not just the food you buy, but the way you prepare it that has affects on your health.
